How to open a .usdz file
Quick, free ways to open USDZ on any system.
A .usdz file is a Universal Scene Description (zipped). If double-clicking does nothing, your computer simply does not have an app that reads USDZ yet. Here is how to fix that on each operating system, using free software wherever possible.
Open a .usdz file step by step
- Confirm the file really is a .usdz. Drop it into the WhatFileType file identifier, which reads its signature without uploading anything.
- On Windows, open it with USD tools or convert to glTF.
- On Mac, use AR Quick Look or Reality Converter.
- On Linux, try USD tools (usdview).
- Still stuck? Convert the .usdz to gltf, which opens more widely.
