WhatFileType is a free reference site for file formats and extensions. By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
The tools are provided as is
The lookup, the in-browser file identifier and the free API are provided at no charge, as is, without warranty of any kind. We aim for accuracy but cannot guarantee that every format record, MIME type or signature is complete or error-free at all times. Do not rely on this site as the sole source for anything safety-critical.
Accuracy of data
Format records are compiled from public specifications and vendor documentation. If you spot an error, please tell us through the contact form, corrections are welcome.
Advertising
This site may display advertising from third-party networks to help cover the cost of running it. Ads are separate from WhatFileType's own content, and their presence does not mean we endorse any advertised product or service. See the Privacy Policy for how ads and cookies work.
Acceptable use
Please do not attempt to disrupt the site, scrape it at abusive volume, or use the free API or embeddable widget in a way that degrades it for other people. Reasonable personal and commercial use is welcome, see the API and embed pages for the details.

Some pages link to other tools or sites, including a sibling project at ImageConvert. We are not responsible for the content or practices of external sites you reach from a link on WhatFileType.
